Putu Yudiantara works at the intersection of psychology, Balinese scripture, and lived experience. Rather than offering fixed answers, his journey unfolds through deep listening—to texts, to tradition, and to the human condition. In this conversation, he reflects on purpose, doubt, devotion, and the clarity that slowly emerges when one finally makes peace with their own path.
Beginning With the Human Perspective
What is the purpose and intention of your work—or your play?
I still can’t express this in a single sentence.
Over the last few years, I’ve looked back on my journey. I began by exploring Balinese scriptures through the lens of psychology. From the start, I wanted to understand these teachings from a human perspective.. not from the perspective of the gods.

Falling in Love With the Texts
Along the way, I lost my way. I fell deeply in love with aksara, with the texts themselves. My focus shifted from psychology to philology. As I began shaping my doctorate proposal, I realized with certainty that I wanted to become a researcher of texts.
Returning to the Beginning
At one point, I had to return to the beginning—to psychology, and to the way these texts supported me personally. I don’t yet know what my legacy will be, but in the coming years I hope to offer a spirituality that makes sense—free of bullshit—while still protecting the true integrity of what has been passed down.
I want this work to represent an authentic inheritance, and to allow these teachings to speak clearly within contemporary practice without losing their essence. This realization gave me space to recover.

Confidence, Teaching, and Resistance
Only recently did I reach this turning point. For many years, people asked me to teach meditation, and I always found reasons not to. In truth, I struggled with confidence.
Prayer as Foundation
From the beginning, one thing allowed me to speak in public: my prayer. I pray to become a vessel for the flow of Saraswati, so that what people hear becomes less about me and more about something lighter, something aligned with my principles. This work is about safeguarding—tradition, integrity, and ourselves.

Putu Yudiantara commits himself to truth with quiet devotion. He engages tradition without trapping it in the past, and he approaches scholarship as a living, breathing practice. Through text, prayer, and humility, he continues to explore how ancient knowledge can remain relevant, embodied, and human. His journey reminds us that clarity does not arrive suddenly—it grows through patience, integrity, and the courage to keep listening.
